Guilt free whole wheat pancakes
Who doesn’t love pancakes? Pancakes are flat cakes made from a batter consisting milk and eggs similar to a cake batter. Pancakes are a part of traditional american breakfast menu. American Pancakes are tall and fluffy and are made using a raising agent like baking powder. In case of britain, it is thin and flat like a crepe. In India, we have dosas that are made without the use of any raising agent.Pancakes are normally prepared using all purpose flour, eggs and milk.
I have made classic pancakes using all purpose flour and eggs. I had about 2tbsp of chocolate chips stocked up in the fridge. I came up with the idea of whole wheat pancakes while pondering over the question of what can be made using chocolate chips other than cakes. Exclusion of eggs and addition of oats makes it more heatlhy.At first, I was a little skeptical about the taste. To my surprise, it tasted so good that I liked it better than classic pancakes. The molten chocolate chips combined with crunchy oats renders every bite of this pan cake absolutely scrumptious.

Makes 4 to 5 medium sized pancakes
- Whole wheat flour/atta-1 cup
- Oats- 1/4 cup
- Milk-1 cup
- Butter-2 tbsp
- Vegetable oil-1 tsp
- Salt- A pinch
- Baking powder-1 tbsp
- Vanilla extract/essence-1 tsp
- Cinnamon powder-1 tsp
- Sugar-1/2 cup
- Chocolate chips-1 tbsp
Sift whole wheat flour, oats together and set aside.
In a bowl, take all dry ingredients(whole wheat flour, oats, salt, sugar, baking powder,cinnamon) and mix well.
In another bowl take all wet ingredients(milk, melted butter, vanilla extract, vegetable oil) and whisk together.
Slowly add the dry ingredient mixture to the wet ingredients and mix into a smooth batter taking care of lumps.
Heat a pan/tawa with a dollop of butter and add the pancake batter using a ladle.
Flip it over once the sides turn crisp and cook until it gets golden brown.
Serve with a dollop of butter and maple syrup or fruits of your choice.
- I used quaker multi grain oats. You can use any oats of your choice.
- You can use cocoa powder instead of chocolate chips or completely skip it for a more healthier version.
